We know buying your next luxury handbag can be a big decision, and one that comes with a LOT of questions - which brand should I go with? Timeless or trendy? What material should the bag be? What about the color? Gold-tone or silver-tone hardware? Crossbody or tote bag? We've got you covered!
We love alllll designer bags, and there's a million to choose from!
We suggest sticking with luxury brands known specifically for their bag designs and quality - Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, Dior, and Celine are just a few of our favorites.
You can never go wrong with a classic! Trendy styles are always a fun change of pace, but a classic style bag is more likely to be a staple in your closet, not to mention hold its value better over time. A neutral bag with either silver or gold-tone hardware is about as classic as it gets, but a timeless bag in a fun color is great twist! A few examples of classic bags are the Chanel Double Flap or Shopping Tote, Louis Vuitton's Neverfull, or an Hermès Birkin or Kelly. A great "in-between" investment option is a limited edition bag, or bag from a special collaboration between designers! Ideally, you want a go-to bag you can carry every day, so take a look at your day-to-day needs when deciding on the size you'll need. Some people want a big everyday tote like the Louis Neverfull, and others want something small like the Chanel Wallet On Chain that they can carry solo or toss into a larger tote. Pricing is obviously a major component when it comes to picking your next bag, especially as luxury brands continue regular price increases. Prices are going up across the board, whether you're buying from the designer or via luxury resale. "Fan favorite" style bags will be the best investment since they will continue to hold their value (this is key if you ever want to resell!), like the classic bags mentioned above. Material is also something to consider - Chanel's caviar leather or Louis Vuitton's Epi leather are more durable and less likely to show wear, also helping to hold or increase their value. Vintage bags are a great option as well; the materials are often higher quality than those used today, like Chanel's 24k gold plated hardware vs gold-tone hardware used today.
